Emerging Techology

Eric Migicovsky, an industrial-design student at Delft University of technology in the Netherlands, wanted a way to use his smartphone without crashing his bicycle. "I thought of creating a watch that could grab information from my phone," he says. "I ended up building a prototype in my dorm room." Now he ships 85,000 Pebble watches to eager customers who don't want to lug a glass slab out of their pocket to check an e-mail they receive or to find out what the weather is. The watch uses Bluetooth to connect wirelessly to an iPhone or Android phone and displays notifications, messages, and other data to the user's choosing on the screen. The Pebble can control playlists and apps like RunKeeper and more. The device has a black-and-white screen lets the user read the screen in direct sunlight and displays content persistently without needing to "sleep" to conserve battery power, as color or touch-screen displays do.

So these technologies will for make it easier to get out your phone without getting out your phone. What surprised me was that most things, the watch was made by a 26 year-old student in college. The possibilities that they talk about in the article is that it maybe they will replace the smartphone altogether by combining a computer and monitor into eyeglass frames so that wearers can "augment" their view of the world data. With today’s technology though, what they talk about does not surprise me that much.

In 2010 there was technology that was considered "emerging" to be now being used like Mobile 3-D.
